Sonja Gale was born on December 20, 1950 to George and Dorothy Hallock in Lamar, Colorado. She passed away on February 9, 2026 at Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo, CO with her husband by her side at the age of 75.

Sonja grew up in Springfield, CO and attended Springfield High School. She graduated in May of 1969. Her love for music was shown by her avid participation in the Pep Band in high school. After high school, she attended college at Panhandle Agriculture and Mechanical College, which was later to become Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Oklahoma. It was there she met and eventually married Tommy Bronniman of Woodward, Oklahoma on August 28, 1971. To this union were born Tamran Kay Bronniman of Lamar, Colorado and John Wayne Bronniman of Las Animas, CO.

Tom and Sonja started their marriage in Lawton, OK, as Tom was stationed at Fort Sill, where he served in the U.S. Army. They eventually moved to Springfield in 1973. On August 14, 1974, Sonja accepted Jesus as her personal Savior and then on May 11, 1977, Tom and Sonja joined the First Baptist Church in Springfield. Sonja served her Saviour by raising her children, teaching in schools and serving the church in various capacities.

Sonja was a substitute teacher at Springfield Elementary School for Mrs. Matthews’ 2nd grade class. Sonja truly enjoyed teaching. In 1982, Sonja started teaching at the Lamar Christian School. She drove a school bus every day from Springfield to Lamar with 20 kids aboard, until 1986 when the Bronniman Family moved to Lamar. At the Lamar Christian School, she taught for 14 years and taught many different grades over those years.

Sonja was a talented musician and vocalist. She enjoyed singing in the church choir, at the First Baptist Church in Springfield and Calvary Baptist Church in Lamar for many years. She also played the trumpet in the Pep Band at the Springfield High School.

Sonja was a true “prayer warrior” and “faithful supporter” of her husband, Tom, during his multiple overseas deployments and many “summer camps”. If Sonja was asked to pray about an issue or for someone she could be counted on. Additional during his deployments, Sonja faithfully served as a part of the Family Support Groups often travelling to Ft. Carson,

Colorado receiving many awards and certificates of appreciation for her selfless-service.

Sonja was extremely proud of her grandchildren often travelling out of town to watch them on the field, on the court, or in the pool. If you got a chance to see Sonja at a McClave sporting events, you would see her sitting by Tom waiving her Big Red Foam Finger and cheering on the Cardinals.

Sonja loved to cook and took great joy in creating meals for friends and family to enjoy. Her fried chicken would give The Colonel a run for his money, and her homemade noodles were a staple for Thanksgiving. Sonja’s creativity came to life in the multiple birthday cakes that she made for her children and grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents George and Dorothy Hallock and an infant daughter, Stephanie Gale Bronniman.
