A Mass of Christian burial for longtime Lamar resident, Joseph Cedeno, affectionately known by his family and friends as Joe, was held at 10:00 AM Thursday August 23, 2012 at the St. Francis de Sales/Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Lamar with Reverend Charlie Sena as celebrant.  A Rosary Service was held at 6:00 PM, Wednesday, August 22, 2012 with Deacon Henry Wertin reciting. 

The Rite of Committal for Joe was held at 2:00 PM (CST) on Friday, August 24, 2012 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Chase, Kansas.

Visitation for Joe was held from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM Wednesday August 22, 2012 at the Peacock Family Chapel.

Joe was born on March 23, 1951 in Lyons, Kansas to Joseph L. and Amelia (Aguilera) Cedeno and departed this life on Saturday August 18, 2012 at the Memorial Health Systems in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the age of 61.

Joe was preceded in death by his father.

Joe is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sherri Cedeno of the family home; his children; Amy Wagner of Richlands, North Carolina, Joseph R. Cedeno of Seattle, Washington, Corey Minear of Hays, Kansas and Anita Emerson of Quantico, Virginia. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Gilbert Cedeno-Longoria, Xavier Minear, Mircea Wagner, Milana Wagner, Israel Emerson and Lateal Emerson. Also surviving are his mother, Amelia and siblings; John Cedeno, Jim Cedeno and Gerianne Habiger all of Kansas.

Joseph was a 1995 graduate of Basic Law Enforcement Training from Southern Colorado Law Enforcement training academy in Trinidad, Colorado. He was a certified Colorado State Peace officer. Joseph retired as the Chief of Security after eleven years of service from Lamar Community College in 2008. He had many years of service as a detention officer, road deputy, police officer and as a K-9 handler/trainer.

His true love was training and handling K-9s in Search and Rescue, Protection and Narcotic Detection. His longtime K-9 companions were a black lab narcotics detection dog named Coots and a German shepherd named Ace.

Joseph loved the outdoors and the Colorado Rocky Mountains thus choosing to settle near the mountains by moving his family to Lamar, Colorado in 1993.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation in care of the funeral home office.
