A celebration of life memorial service for longtime Hasty resident, Jo Ann Rich will be held at 12:30PM on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at the Hasty Friends Church with Pastor Gary Pritchard officiating. The service will be followed by a luncheon hosted by her children and members of her church family. Come share the love.
Per Jo’s request cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation.
Jo Ann Roberts Rich was born at her home in the Horse Creek community near Bent’s Old Fort on July 4, 1942 to Mary and Pete Robert. She departed this life on July 16, 2018 at the Lamar Estates Nursing Home.
She and her sisters, Patsy and Shirley, all attended Horse Creek School, one of the last “One-Room, one teacher” schools for grades 1st through 8th. Jo was a member of the Class of 1960 at Las Animas High School. Jo, her sisters, and their mother worked like any other members of the farming community, planting, irrigating, hoeing, harvesting and daily chores were just a part of growing up.
Jo married and became the loving mother of five children: Isa, Harry, Marissa, Teresa and Rob. She raised all five while working as a popular server at a local restaurant.
Jo’s smile never failed to light up any room she entered at home or at work. She was a friend and a comfort to all who were privileged to know her. Jo never failed to express her love to her family, and passed that characteristic to each of her children. None of them ever doubted their mother would do whatever she could to help them through any crisis or fulfill any need.
Her last years were difficult with both injury and illness, but her love for her family never faltered. Her last words were, “I love you”.
Jo leaves behind her husband, Bill Rich of Hasty, CO, five children, Isa Atkinson of Hasty, CO; Marissa (Dennis) Riley of McDaniel, KY; Teresa (Dave) Bruseau, of Lebanon, OR; Harry (Abigail) Atkinson of Rocky Ford, CO and Rob (Julie) Atkinson of Albany, OR; as well as her step-children, Joshua Rich of Aurora, CO; Michael Rich of Colorado Springs, CO, Dustin Rich of Grand Junction, CO; Jennifer (Peter) Stevens of Trinity, NC and Chrissy Lucas of Greensboro, NC. She will be sorely missed by her sisters, Patsy Eichacker of Colorado City, CO and Shirley (Cliff) Stuart of Hasty, CO. Her legacy of love is shared by over 30 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Hasty Friends Church either direct or in care of the funeral home office.
