February 21, 1953 – November 29, 2025

A celebration of life for longtime Lamar resident Galan Burnett will be held on Saturday, December 06, 2025 at 10:00AM at the Peacock Family Chapel with Ian Blacker officiating. Interment will follow at the Eads Cemetery in Eads, Colorado.

Galan Delmer Burnett, 72, died surrounded by family and friends at his home on November 29,2025. A fervent follower of Christ, Galan is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior after a brief, but valiant battle against cancer.

Galan was born February 21, 1953, to Judd D. and Clara Nancy (Ashcraft) Burnett in Dodge City, Kansas. Galan was Nancy’s first child and Judd, a widower’s, fourth. The Burnett family moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, in February 1956. Galan’s little sister, O’Nita, joined the family in November 1960.

Galan’s life was shaped from an early age by his love of Jesus. In June 1967, Galan was moved to dedicate his life to Christ during a session of Rocky Mountain Yearly Meeting’s (RMYM) annual meetings at Quaker Ridge Camp in Woodland Park, Colorado. He said he realized he needed to not just intellectually know Christ but have a true heart experience as Jesus as his savior. Two years later at RMYM’s annual meeting, Galan was convicted by the Holy Spirit to truly place Christ on a throne in his heart. Evangelical Friends churches and RMYM and Quaker Ridge Camp would continue to play a large role in Galan’s life. He attended or volunteered at Quaker Ridge Camp annually for more than half a century.

In 1971 Galan graduated from Grand Junction High School and entered Friends Bible College (now known as Barclay College) in Haviland, Kansas, in the fall. At Friends Bible College Galan found the love of his life, Mary Bea Moyer. Following graduation from Friends Bible College, Galan and Mary were married May 24, 1975, in Eads, Colorado. The next six weeks were spent camping in the Rocky Mountains and visiting family and friends.

In the spring of 1975, the young couple was called by Hopewell Friends Church in Hopewell, Kansas. Mary and Galan had spent several years volunteering at the meeting during their time at Friends Bible College. On July 1, 1975, Galan and Mary officially began their ministry together. Galan was officially recorded by Kansas Yearly Meeting in 1977.

After two years at Hopewell, the Burnetts were called by Spring Bank Friends Church in Spring Bank, Nebraska. The move to northeast Nebraska was followed quickly by another big change for the young couple. Their first child, Miriam Anna, was born on June 28, 1978. She was followed in relatively quick succession by Micah Andrew on March 20, 1980, and Aaron Walter on January 13, 1982.

The Burnett’s spent five fruitful years at Spring Bank as several youth in the meeting and community came to personally know the Lord.

In the spring of 1982 Galan and Mary felt the Holy Spirit calling them to return to Colorado. The fledgling Faith Friends Church in Lamar, contacted the young family about joining the meeting. In June, Galan and Mary accepted the call from Faith Friends Church and continued their ministry in Lamar until joining their Lord and Savior.

Over the next several decades Galan and Mary dedicated their lives to living out Christ’s love in a real and tangible way in the community. In September 1999, Galan agreed to serve as a pastor at Chivington Friends Church in Kiowa County, Colorado. He would continue to serve the church for the next two decades. In November 2019, Galan agreed to provide pulpit supply to the First Baptist Church congregation in Holly, Colorado, for approximately fifteen months. He continued to serve the congregation in a spiritual support role until falling ill in late 2025.

To support his growing family, Galan held several jobs in addition to his role as a pastor. These included working at Palmer Oil Company in Lamar, Southeast Disability Services (SDS) and Prowers County Department of Social Services. In the last two decades of his life, Galan substitute taught at several school districts throughout southeastern Colorado. He found joy working in the classroom as it allowed him to connect to multiple generations of families.

Additionally, Galan spent more than twenty years volunteering for the Eastern Colorado Medical Transportation System and the Veterans Administration driving veterans to medical appointments along the Front Range.

The move to Lamar also allowed Galan and Mary to spend quality time with family, including Mary’s parents and siblings and Galan’s mother.

Galan was an active member of the local and faith communities throughout his life. He served multiple terms as the president of the Lamar Ministerial Alliance. Galan served in numerous leadership and support roles over more than 50 years in Rocky Mountain Yearly Meeting. He participated in numerous civic boards and committees, most recently serving on the Lamar Historic Preservation Board. A staunch believer in transparent government, Galan regularly attended both the Lamar City Council and Prowers County Commissioner meetings and helped organize opening prayers for both organizations. He was a firm believer in limiting harm in the community and consistently and vocally opposed liquor and marijuana licenses.

Galan is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Bea (Moyer) Burnett; parents, Judd and Nancy (Ashcraft) Burnett; and two siblings, Marjory Ann Meador and Dairl Judd Burnett. He is survived by three children, Miriam Anna Burnett of Denver, Colorado, Micah Andrew Burnett of Lamar, and Aaron Walter Burnett (Yadeira) of Hockessin, Delaware; granddaughter Gwendolyn Jade Burnett (Christian) of Lamar; two sisters, Arlene Lamb of Aurora, Colorado, and O’Nita Kay Burnett of Denver; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Quaker Ridge Camp either directly at 30150 SH-67 Woodland Park, CO 80863 or in care of the funeral home office.
