March 2, 1929 – November 10, 2023

            A Closed Casket Celebration of life for longtime Wiley resident and former Pritchett, Colorado resident, Carroll Shelton affectionately known to his family and friends as Wayne, will be held at 10:00AM on Monday, November 20, 2023 at Peacock Family Chapel in Lamar, Colorado with Pastor Travis Walker of Wiley Methodist Church officiating. Interment with full military honors under the auspices of the local V.F.W. and American Legion Posts will follow at the Wiley Cemetery.

 

Carroll Wayne “Salty” Shelton was born at home in Pritchett on March 2, 1929, to Floyd Jesse Shelton and Lillie Viola LeVeque. He had 5 brothers and 2 sisters. He grew up and graduated from Pritchett and began farming there. He met and married Patsy Colleen Garber November 2, 1952. They were married 59 years until her passing in 2011.

 

In 1953 he was drafted from the reserve into the army and served in Korea until 1954. After he returned, he continued to farm and carry the mail. He was transferred to the post office in Wiley in 1981. They moved to the Wiley area and made it their home.

 

They had 3 children, Debbie George, Steve Shelton and Carla Brown. He had 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Patsy, brothers Doyle and Dean, and sister LaVeta.

 

He is survived by his brothers Dave, Don and Dale, and his sister Sandra, all of his children and their families.

 

He and his wife are buried at the Wiley Cemetery.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Lamar Area Hospice either direct or in care of the funeral home office.
