A visitation for lifelong Lamar, Colorado resident Audrey Mary Coats was held on Thursday, August 20, 2026 at the Peacock Family Chapel. A private family burial followed at Fairmount Cemetery in Lamar. A memorial service for Audrey will be held at 1:30 on Friday, October 30, 2026 at the Peacock Family Chapel. Officiating at the memorial will be Kathy Leathers of the Holly Methodist Church.

Audrey was born on June 03, 1927 at the family farmhouse located north of Lamar, Colorado to Michael and Sadie (McKenney) Bachman and passed away on August 17, 2026 at the Prowers Medical Center with her family by her side at the age of 99.

Audrey attended Alta Vista Elementary School from Grades 1 through 8 and graduated from Lamar Union High School in May 1945. Shortly after graduation she began working for the National Alfalfa Dehydrating and Milling Company as a secretary. From July 1951 until July 1998 she worked for the Lamar School District as Secretary to the Superintendent and Board of Education. In retirement she enjoyed her time by reading and collecting books, tending to her indoor and outdoor plants, and spending time with family, friends, and her cats.

Audrey was united in marriage to Glen Coats in Raton, NM on October 30, 1950. The couple honeymooned in Taos, NM.

Audrey was active in the Colorado Association of Educational Office Personnel her entire career and was president of the local chapter on several occasions, state president at least once, and was selected as the Association’s “Colorado Educational Secretary of the Year” in 1974. Audrey was also an avid baseball fan. Growing up her favorite team was the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers and then starting in 1993 the Colorado Rockies. She seldom missed watching a Rockies game on TV and went to as many Rockies games as she was able.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Glen Coats, brother Keith Bachman and sister Bernice Smith. Audrey is survived by her son Michael (Seana) Coats of Taos, NM as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and a host of friends.
