A Funeral Liturgy service for longtime Lamar resident, Sandy L. Kilpatrick was held at 11:00 AM Tuesday January 15, 2013at the Peacock Family Chapel in

Lamar with Deacon Henry Wertin as the liturgist and Ian Blacker concluding the chapel service with memories of Sandy.  A private family interment of ashes will take place at a later date. Per Sandy’s request cremation has taken place and there was no visitation.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband – Jerry E. Kilpatrick on July 8, 2012; and by one step-son – Carl Kilpatrick.

Sandy is survived by three children – Tony (Joanna) Gruntmeir of Enid, Oklahoma; Tim (Cynthia) Gruntmeir of Pueblo, CO; and Teri Gruntmeir of Lamar; by four step-daughters - Edie Kilpatrick (Chris) of Seadrift, Texas; Donna (Marty) Ament of Gunnison, CO; Vicky (Clarence) Felzien of Pueblo, CO; and Mia (Dave) Oswald of Colorado Springs; by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; by one brother – Bill (Sue) Cunningham of Enid, OK; by two sisters – Cathie (David) Jones also of Enid and Sue (Terry) Ragoss of Hunter, OK; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends also survive.Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Lamar Area Hospice either direct or in care of the Peacock Funeral Home.

Sandra L. Kilpatrick, affectionately known to her family and friends as Sandy, was born in Enid, Oklahoma to William and Mildred (Vosburg) Cunningham on May 24, 1937.

She grew up in Enid and graduated with the class of 1955 from Memorial High School. Following her high school graduation she attended nurses training at St. Anthony’s Hospital and Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK.

She married Marvin Gruntmeir in 1959 in Oklahoma. From this union three children were born; Marvin A. “Tony” Gruntmeir, Jr, Timothy Alan Gruntmeir and Teresa “Teri” Gruntmeir.

She moved from Oklahoma City to Two Buttes, CO in 1967 where she worked as a nurse at Southeast Colorado Hospital in Springfield and helped with the farming and cattle operation at Two Buttes.

She married William “Bill” L. Mitchell in 1979. Bill passed away in 1985. In 1986 Sandy married Jerry E. Kilpatrick. She found employment with Prowers Medical Center and worked there for 22 years before retiring in 2004. She returned to work in 2005, working in the physician’s clinic.

Sandy was a member of St. Francis de Sales/Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She loved to crochet and made baby afghan sets for over 150 friends, many of them mothers of newborns that she had made sets for when they were babies themselves. She loved music and had been a soloist many times in high school and at church in Springfield. As a young girl, Sandy was featured on TV with western bands in Enid, OK. Most of all, she love family and friends.

She loved her nursing profession and worked full time from the time of her graduation until 2004. She worked as a director of nursing in Walsh and Springfield, a surgical, OB, med surge and an ER nurse.

Sandy passed away at the age of 75 on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at her home in Lamar with her family by her side.
