Louis "Lou" Campbell

Services was held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at the Lamar United Methodist Church for former longtime Lamar resident, educator and principal of Lamar Junior High School from 1955 to 1980, Louis "Lou" Campbell. Reverend Ramon Robledo officiated the services and interment followed at Fairmount Cemetery under the auspices of the Lamar V.F.W. Post #3621 and the American Legion Post #71.

Louis Richard Campbell of Longmont died August 11, 2011 at Applewood Living Center.He was 93.
Lou was born on March 19, 1918 in Walsenburg, Colorado to Thomas Campbell and Jane Murray Campbell.Following high school, he entered the U.S.Navy working as a flight instructor.Completing his military duty, Lou returned to school attending Colorado Teachers College, Greeley.There he participated and lettered in football, basketball and tennis.
He married Grace Meline on June 6, 1948 in Kearney, Nebraska.
Lou began a teaching career, before entering administration.He was the principal of Lamar Junior High School from 1955 to 1980.He would follow that with acting as Athletic Director for a number of years.He was also golf coach for Lamar High School.
Lou and Grace both enjoyed many and various activities.He followed all his children’s involvements and interests.He loved to golf for many years, accomplishing 7 holes in ones through the years.He also played tennis and was an avid hunter and fisherman.He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks and Masonic Lodge.
Preceding him in death are his wife and a brother Leonard “Soup’ Campbell.
Surviving are his daughter LouAnn (Steve) Gorenstein of Longmont; a son Thomas Scott (Karen) Campbell of Johnstown; 7 grandchildren Annie and Marc Gorenstein, Kathy, Scott, Kelly, Misty and Robert Campbell and Daniel, Cameron and Bradon Hurd; and 9 great grandchildren.
