A graveside service for former longtime Lamar resident, currently of Rocky Ford, Colorado was held at 10:00AM on Friday May 20, 2016 at the Veteran’s Section in Fairmount Cemetery with Reverend John Nkwocha as celebrant.
Visitation for John was held from 1:00PM until 5:00PM on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at the Peacock Family Chapel.
John was born on September 23, 1943 at Lamar, Colorado to Ben and Lucilla (Chavez) Abitia and passed away on May 17, 2016 at the Pioneer Heath Care Center in Rocky Ford, Colorado at the age of 72.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Eric B. Abitia; siblings, Frances Abitia and Joseph Abitia.
John is survived by his son, Bert Abitia of Lamar; grandchildren, Anique Abitia of Colorado Springs, CO and Alyssa Abitia of Lamar. He is also survived by his siblings, Albert (Juanita) Abitia, Vickie (Jesse) Andrade, Estella (Alex Alonzo) Abitia, Candy Jimenez, Benita (Joe) Flores and Connie Adame as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and many friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the John Abitia Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home office.
