A private burial of ashes for longtime Lamar resident, Velma R. Stroup, will be held at a later date.
Per Velma’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be no public visitation.
Velma R. Stroup was born on August 28, 1936 in Barry County, MO to Marvin Leeroy Akers and Opal Katherine Hoog-Akers and departed this life on Saturday December 30, 2017 at the Prowers Medical Center in Lamar at the age of 81.
Velma is survived by five children – Clifton Eugene Stroup and David Wayne Stroup both of Walsh; Deborah Rose Stroup of Palm Bay, FL; Phillip Leeroy (Gloria) Stroup of Pecos, TX; and Timothy Alan Stroup of Lamar; by three sisters - Deloris Pearson of Lamar; Mary (Michael) Scannell of Seligman, MO; and Carolyn (Buck) Wright of Lowell, AR as well as by one granddaughter, two grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews.
