Donald L. Bigge
A Memorial Celebration for longtime Lamar resident and businessman, Donald L. Bigge was held at 2:00PM, Thursday, February 10, 2011 at the Lamar Christian Church with Ian Blacker officiating. A Private family burial was held prior to the services at Fairmount Cemetery.
Donald L. Bigge was born March 4, 1933 in Stockton, Kansas to Hugh William and Lean Lambert Bigge. He passed away February 5, 2011 with his family by his side at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the age of 77.
Don is survived by his wife Dolores “Dee” Bigge of the family home in Lamar. his children; Christine (Richard) Bergman of Littleton, Diane (Curtis) Alexander of Greeley, three grand puppies; Rowdy, Maggie, and Alex of Greeley, grandchildren; Eric (Jennifer) Bergman of Omaha, Nebraska, Daniel (Debra) Bergman of Arvada, Colorado, Elissa (Chad) Hanneman of Nekoosa, Wisconsin, Kyla Bergman and Jacob Bergman of Littleton, Colorado. Great grandchildren; Joseph Bergman, James Bergman, Thomas Bergman, Joel Hanneman, Tatiana Hanneman and Daniel Bergman. He is also survived by his sister; Kay (Lloyd) Cooper of Crowley, Texas, brothers; Barton (Ellen) Bigge of Independence, Missouri and Dale (Sandy) Bigge of Clinton, Washington as well as other family and a host of friends. Dan is preceded in death by his parents.
Don enjoyed family life on the farm. He attended school in Stockton, Kansas and graduated in 1950. Don attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas and graduated in 1956 with a degree in Agriculture Economics and Animal Husbandry. He worked for the Extension Service in Washington, Kansas and Goodland, Kansas.
Don married his girlfriend and love of his life, Dolores Lee Francis on September 24, 1955 in Stockton, Kansas. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage. They have two daughters whom Don adored. He loved his visits with his grandchildren, great grandchildren and the love from his grand puppies running around his feet.
In 1961, Don joined the Goodland State Bank in Goodland, Kansas as Executive Vice President and Agricultural Representative. In 1972 he became President of Valley State Bank in Lamar. Upon retirement from the bank in 1983, Don presided as President of D & D Bigge, Inc. Lamar. He was a Colorado and Kansas Real Estate Broker from 1995 to 2011.
Don was a mason of 49 years and active in several Masonic organizations in Goodland, Kansas. He was also a 50 year member of the Lamar Elks Lodge. Don was actively involved in the Christian Church in Goodland as an elder and trustee and many committees. He was a member of the Lamar Chamber of Commerce and the Spreading Antlers Golf Association. He loved to golf, fish, hunt, and play cards and other games.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Lamar Christian Church and/or to the Southeast Colorado Cancer Initiative either direct or in care of the funeral home office.
